FAQ: General Questions
Q. I don’t want Tynt Publisher Tools to add an attribution link when I copy and paste. What can I do?
A. Click HERE to opt out.
Q. After applying the OPT OUT the attribution link still appears after a copy and paste.
A. Refresh your browser settings by clearing your cache or applying a hard refresh.
Q. What is Tynt Publisher Tools? The short version…
A. Tynt Publisher Tools does a couple of interesting things: it tracks user engagement on your site by tracking copy and paste activity and automatically adds a link back to your content when it is pasted somewhere else.
Q. Do people really copy content?
A. Our stats show that between 2 and 6% of page views result in some kind of user action that Tynt Publisher Tools can track. What this means is: if your web site has 20 million page views per month then content leaves your site over 1 million times per month. Wouldn’t you want to know what and how often it leaves your site?
Q. How does Tynt Publisher Tools drive web traffic?
A. When someone copies and pastes text from your web site Tynt Publisher Tools automatically adds a link back to the original article with the paste. When the recipient clicks that URL, they are directed back to the original content. This drives incremental traffic to your site when your content is shared without your knowledge while maintaining a consistent user experience.
Q. How much does Tynt Publisher Tools cost?
A. Tynt Publisher Tools is FREE.
Q. What about user privacy?
A. None of the data that Tynt Publisher Tools tracks can be used to uniquely identify an individual user.
Q. Can I use Tynt Publisher Tools with my blog?
A. You can use it with some blog sites. For more information visit our How To Install Publisher Tools on Your Blog page.
Q. My site appears to be using Tynt Publisher Tools, but I haven’t installed anything. Why is that?
A. We work with a number of analytic partners, helping them collect data regarding user engagement on their sites. As part of that, you may see traffic go back to tynt.com, if you have one of our partner’s analytic widgets installed.
Technical Questions

Q. How often do my Tynt Publisher Tools stats update?

Q. Can I use Tynt Publisher Tools to monitor my blog?
A. It depends. Most hosted blogging platforms do not give you access to the HTML source code but if yours does then you can use Tynt Publisher Tools. We have users that use Blogspot, WordPress, Blogger, Typepad, Squarespace and others, so if you have questions please get in touch (feedback@tynt.com).
Q. Does Tynt Publisher Tools change my user’s experience on my site?
A. Impact on the end user experience is minimal; if you have the Attribution Links feature enabled, when a user pastes content copied from your site they will see the attribution link back to the original content page. When a user clicks the link, they will be taken back to the original page.
Q. Does the Tynt identifier code (e.g. #ixzz123456) impact my SEO?
A. The tag allows us to uniquely identify a copy and provide analytics via the Publisher Tools dashboard. Tynt specifically chose to use a hash tag (#) because everything after it is ignored by the major search engines. This ensures that the links are not viewed as duplicate content and there is no negative SEO impact.
Q. How big is the payload for my Tynt Publisher Tools script?
A. Approximately 12k.
Q. What user actions does Tynt Publisher Tools measure?
A. Tynt Publisher Tools is designed to measure user engagement in a completely new way. Currently, Tynt Publisher Tools monitors:
• Copy/Paste Activity
• Content Sharing
• Keyword Search
• Inbound and Outbound Search Terms
• Social Impact of Social Networks
Q. How can I block Tynt Publisher Tools from monitoring my actions?
A. Click HERE to opt out.
Q. Can the automatically generated attribution link be deleted by a user?
A. The automatically generated attribution link can be removed by the user. You cannot prevent a user from sharing your content, but you can increase your chances of getting credit for the copy by using the automatic attribution link. The automatic link provides an effortless step for users to link back to your content and is often left in place which can have a positive impact on your search engine ranking.
Q. I have multiple domains that I want to track. Do I have to create a separate account for each?
A. Tynt Publisher Tools tracks and summarizes data on a per account basis. As such, if you have multiple domains and would like to see the data separately, we recommend setting up accounts for each domain using the Account Rollup feature.
Q. How does Tynt Publisher Tools track image copies?
A. Tynt Publisher Tools currently tracks when a user copies an image by either using the CTRL-C or right click copy commands. We are working on adding additional functionality to image copies. Please let us know what would work for you at feedback@tynt.com
Q. Does Tynt Publisher Tools work with Google Analytics?
A. Tynt Publisher Tools is running in tandem with Google Analytics on a large percentage of our sites, without any reported problems.
